Serving1 was the result of the two original members (Phil McCarty & Rusty Kines) turning from the "stereotypical" Rock and Roll lifestyle and giving their lives to Jesus Christ. Phil recalls one evening sitting on a couch wondering what the next step was and how to use his talents for God. The logo came first - originally depicted as the word "Serving" laid on top of the number "1", forming the shape of a cross. At that point “Serving1” was born.
Over the course of several months following the birth of Serving1, Phil and Rusty started writing original music based on their past experiences. They also began to advertise for a bassist and drummer. It was at this point where Scott Conway began seeking another band after his previous band dissolved. Scott came into contact with the manager at local Christian coffee shop in Gainesville where Phil’s number had been passed along.
The following day, Scott set up an audition with Phil and Rusty at a potential guitar player’s house. It was here Scott met Phil and Rusty for the first time and a potential bass player named Jack Mullen. Unbeknownst to Jack and Scott, they each were auditioning for the first time. But from the first down beat, Scott recalls “all of the members just clicked.” Over the next several months, potential guitar players didn’t work out and the band is the culmination of what you see today. Four guys who are hungry for Christ. We are energetic, full of boldness and passion, fusing diverse musical styles to create original “God Rock.”

Creed, my mom and dad and God Himself.
About Me-
I’m a welder by trade and I’ve been playing music since I was 14, which I owe to
my good friend Phillip, who introduced me to the world of music. I started singing
when I was 15. Mom and I used to sing together to the radio.
I finally realized that I heard God’s calling in my life when I got saved in June of 2007. That same day, Phillip called me and asked if I would like to be in a Christian rock band. I had not seen Phillip in nearly a year, so I was blown away – in my heart, I felt that the phone call was affirmation of God’s call to praise and worship Him though music.
Thanks To-
I give thanks to God for His son Jesus, for the gift of music; for my mom, dad, brother, sister, the rest of my family, and all of my friends; my beautiful wife, Tiffany, my son, Ty, and my daughter, Keighley; everyone whose life I’ve touched and those who have touched mine. I would like to thank Scott, our drummer; Jack, our bassist; and Phillip and Manny, our guitarists for being part of something great.

Q&A
Where were you born and where have you lived?
Leesburg, Va.
Best childhood memory:
My parents would allow my sister and I to open one gift on Christmas Eve. So I chose the largest gift - which was my first guitar! I can remember spending the night learning "Hang Down Your Head" by Tom Waits.
Most embarrassing moment:
I had just leapt off the drum risers at a show when things became crazy! As I turned in mid-air, the guitar cable became tangled around my legs. As I landed, the momentum carried me right off the back of the stage - taking my guitar stand with me (which was caught in the guitar strap...) I can still remember finishing the song with the stand still stuck to my back!
