Biography
Phil McCarty - Lead Guitar
Jack Mullen - Bass
Serving1 was the result of it's original member turning from the "stereotypical" Rock and Roll lifestyle and giving his life to Jesus Christ. Phil recalls one evening sitting on a couch wondering what the next step was and how to use his talents for God. The logo came first - originally depicted as the word "Serving" laid on top of the number "1", forming the shape of a cross. At that point “Serving1” was born.

Q&A

Where were you born and where have you lived?
Leesburg, Va.

Best childhood memory:
My parents would allow my sister and I to open one gift on Christmas Eve. So I chose the largest gift - which was my first guitar!  I can remember spending the night learning "Hang Down Your Head" by Tom Waits.

Most embarrassing moment:
I had just leapt off the drum risers at a show when things became crazy! As I turned in mid-air, the guitar cable became tangled around my legs. As I landed, the momentum carried me right off the back of the stage - taking my guitar stand with me (which was caught in the guitar strap...) I can still remember finishing the song with the stand still stuck to my back!

Mark DeAngelis - Drums

Musical Influences -
I would say that I was greatly influenced by the rock and roll of the 70’s and 80’s.
I also loved fusion music and especially the drummers who played it!  I tried
to play like Louie Bellson, Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa.  I especially was drawn
to Bellson as he was the first I ever saw play a double bass drum!

Thanks to -
Thanks to God for sending Jesus!  Without Him nothing else matters!  Thank you
to my parents for getting me that Ludwig Kit, and especially my Dad for making
a place for me in his band!  Thank you also to my wife and children for
supporting my addiction to drumming!  Also a shout out to Mark Rogers for
getting me back into it!
